Real talk: When was the last time you tried something new with your hair or makeup? If you’re like many of us, it’s been awhile. Often times we get stuck in the same beauty routine or look, using the same products, in the same way, for many years.

Most of my clients admit they have been wearing their makeup pretty much the same since high school! Due to the nature of my profession, I have experimented with tons of makeup and hair looks over the years, but as I’ve gotten older, that’s slowed down considerably. Although I do still try a lot of new products, I find myself wearing the same makeup shades and hairstyle for some years now. Sure, I like them and they “work for me”, but what happened to my sense of beauty adventure?

Many of us see ourselves in a very limited way. We believe we only look good in a certain lipstick color or hairstyle. We’re afraid to try something new because what if it doesn’t look good? I can’t tell you how many women sit in my makeup chair and tell me that they “can’t wear red lipstick.” And I make it my mission to show them that they can! Of course you should like it and feel comfortable enough to at least give it a try. Changes of any kind take some getting used to, right? But the beauty of makeup is that 1. it’s relatively inexpensive and 2. that you can wipe it off at the end of the day — or sooner!

Our bodies provide us the opportunity for daily self-expression and creativity, and if you ask me, expressing our inner beauty on the outside is one of the sheer, simple pleasures in life. In fact it’s the central theme in my Sacred Beauty Salon Series. Being adventurous with how we look also opens up the ability to see ourselves in new ways. So, with the New Year still fresh, here are three inspired, fun & simple ways to refresh your look:

  1. For lips, go bold: Try a vibrant crimson, or a dark, brooding berry shade. Start by applying a small amount and work the pigment onto your lips. Maybe that’s enough! Or, you can continue to build up the color intensity by applying a little more overtop. This slow-but-sure application technique allows you to be in control of how bold you want to go! Try: Ilia Lipstick in shade Crimson & Clover or the NEW Modern Minerals lipgloss in shade Goddess, both available at the Savor Beauty Bar.
  1. Fill in your brows: This is a simple makeup secret that adds WOW-factor to your makeup! A few swipes and you’ll look immediately more pulled together — even if you keep the rest of your pallette minimal. Although, seemingly insignificant, brows play a huge part in facial symmetry and are a fun way to transform your everyday look. Stop by the Savor Beauty Bar to be matched with your perfect brow shade!
  1. Part ways… with your hair: Have you been eyeing a new cut? Give it a go! Shake things up a bit by letting go of a few inches that are no longer serving you. Not ready to visit the scissors? Even parting your hair in a new direction can spice up your usual look. That’s a risk-free way to explore new perceptions of your go-to-style.

Ultimately, it’s our inner beauty that makes us glow! Are YOU expressing who you are from the inside out? Join me in trying something new this year! I would love to be your guide in a one-on-one makeup lesson at Savor Spa. I’ll hold your hand through the process and ensure that you will walk out feeling like the most beautiful version of your true self!
