Have you ever tried an at-home skincare mask? When was the last time you treated yourself to beauty pick-me-up, let alone a small dose of self-care?

Here’s the thing: face masks may seem like a girls’-night-in, frilly way to spend your time, but they actually provide one of the most efficient skincare routines you can incorporate in one simple treatment.

Why face masks are a good use of your 15 minutes
#1: One-stop-shopping | With a wide range of  possible skincare benefits, masks “pack a punch.” One mask alone can handle concerns like acne, pore size, oiliness, dirt and hydration all at once.

#2: Efficiency | Since face masks are removable treatments, you get the opportunity use powerful ingredients that work rapidly and effectively to address skin concerns, and leave you feeling transformed after only a short period of time.

#3: Multi-purpose | You can use a mask as a short-term spot treatment, too, to clear up a breakout or shrink blackheads on “trouble spots” like your nose.

#4: Nourishing “me” time |  Since stress can cause fine lines, wrinkles, dark circles and breakouts, even a 15-minute de-stress ritual incorporating your fave face mask can do wonders for mind, body, and skin.

#5: More bang for your buck | Most face masks are affordable in one of two ways: they are either A. a great investment or B. easily made at home! While some masks may seem pricey to purchase, they’ll last; most masks are only recommended for use once per week. On the other hand, there are many natural ingredients (from avocado to honey and more) you can use as a DIY skin treatment so you avoid nasty chemicals!

What to look for + what to avoid
Your mask must. Be. Natural. Consider this: you are using a high-octane solution designed to deliver benefits to your skin as quickly and effectively as possible. So when companies use toxic ingredients (from Sodium Lauryl Sulfate to Parabens) you are essentially offering a fast-track path for these ingredients to infiltrate your system. Rest assured, many natural ingredients can accomplish the same benefits without the possible damage. Whether DIY or eco-chic, make sure you choose a natural path to treat your pretty face.

On a similar note, nix the “pore strips”. We all know they’re addicting (gross truth) but some have reported that they are actually less-than-great for your pores! Instead, try using a natural mask with pore-shrinking retinol ingredients.

If you DO use a mask with a natural retinol ingredient, make sure you use a natural sun protectant before going outside. You’ll even want to use it the next day. Why, you ask? Retinols make the skin more sensitive to sun exposure and can invite a sunburn if you don’t take precaution!

Try this:

Choose ONE day this week where a face mask will be your “Daily Savor” – you know, something you do at the end of the day to reward yourself for your hard work.

Buy an all-natural skincare mask or make one on your own using natural ingredients. We recommend using avocado to moisturize, or honey to heal, clarify and soothe!

Add in an exfoliant (like rice bran) for a little extra exfoliation for smooth skin.

Have fun and enjoy the process! Challenge yourself to let the mask soak in for at least 15 minutes while you relax, read, or meditate to clear your head. Enjoy! xo
